Lesson of the Week
Mrs. McGill’s math lesson truly stood out as Lesson of the Week because it was a wonderful example of intentional, student-centered instruction in action! Working with a small group of seven third-grade students, Mrs. McGill skillfully designed a lesson that included four different instructional tasks within one class period, all while keeping students focused, motivated, and supported.
This thoughtfully planned structure required constant monitoring, meaningful check-ins, and seamless transitions—and Mrs. McGill handled it all with ease. Each student received targeted instruction and intervention exactly when they needed it, ensuring no learner was left behind as learning continued.
Students were highly engaged and eager to participate, confidently tackling multi-digit subtraction, multi-digit addition, mixed operations, and even extending their thinking through supported multiplication fluency practice. Most importantly, the classroom environment encouraged students to take academic risks, make mistakes, and learn from them—an essential foundation for deep learning and growth.
This lesson showcased strong differentiation, purposeful planning, and a genuine commitment to meeting students at their individual instructional levels, all while maintaining a positive, energetic, and supportive learning atmosphere. Mrs. McGill’s ability to balance rigor, engagement, and encouragement made this lesson a shining example of effective instruction and a well-deserved Lesson of the Week!
