Superintendent’s Message (July 28, 2026)
Dear Students, Parents, Staff, and Community Members,
Living Our Vision
Last year, Riverside focused on “Leveling Up.” Together, we strengthened programs, expanded opportunities, invested in our schools, and built systems that better support students and staff. From new curriculum resources and learning spaces to expanded career pathways and instructional supports, we laid an important foundation for the future.
This year, our focus shifts from building what we do to defining why we do it.
As Riverside has grown, so too has our understanding of what we want every student to experience and who we hope every graduate becomes. Through thoughtful conversations with our Board of Education, staff, and school leaders, we recognized the importance of ensuring that our Mission and Vision truly reflect who we are today and where we aspire to go tomorrow. That reflection led us to renew these guiding statements, creating a shared compass that will guide every decision we make moving forward.
Our renewed Mission reminds us that, together, our Riverside Ram Family cultivates the best possible learning experiences so every student feels valued, empowered, and challenged to discover and pursue their passions. Our renewed Vision challenges us to ensure every graduate leaves Riverside with the confidence, purpose, and skills to pursue a meaningful future path and make a positive impact.
These are more than updated statements. They are a renewed commitment to every student who enters our schools.
Education is not about deciding a student's future for them. It is about helping them discover it for themselves.
Our responsibility is to inspire learning experiences that spark curiosity, build confidence, develop essential skills, and encourage students to explore their interests, ask meaningful questions, and recognize possibilities they may never have imagined. When students leave Riverside, our hope is not that every graduate follows the same path, but that every graduate leaves with the confidence, purpose, and preparation to pursue their path.
That is what it means to live our vision.
Throughout this school year, that vision will come to life through three priorities that continue to guide our work.
Inspiring Authentic Learning Experiences
Learning is most powerful when students see meaning in what they are doing.
Across the district, we continue expanding authentic learning experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and real-world problem solving. Our growing Learning Academies connect students with career exploration, industry professionals, internships, and hands-on experiences that help them discover interests, talents, and possibilities for the future. Whether students are exploring Medical Sciences, Education, Engineering, Media Production, Business, the Arts, or another pathway, they are learning more than content. They are learning more about themselves.
Our youngest learners experience that same philosophy every day through engaging, research-based instruction using Wonders literacy and Clear Learning Mathematics. These programs do more than strengthen foundational skills. They encourage students to think critically, communicate effectively, persevere through challenges, and develop confidence as learners.
Authentic learning isn't simply about preparing students for college or careers. It is about helping every child discover their strengths, pursue their passions, and begin writing their own story.
Strengthening Instructional Excellence
Exceptional student experiences begin with exceptional teaching.
This year, we will continue investing in our educators through professional learning, instructional coaching, curriculum refinement, and collaborative planning. As our teachers grow, so do the opportunities we are able to provide for every student.
We also continue strengthening the systems that ensure every learner receives the support they need to succeed. Redesigned intervention services, expanded multilingual learner supports, gifted programming, instructional technology, and data-informed decision making allow us to personalize learning while maintaining high expectations for every student.
No two students follow the same path, and their educational experiences should reflect that. By meeting students where they are, challenging them to grow, and celebrating their individual strengths, we help each learner build the confidence and skills needed to pursue the future they choose.
Cultivating Belonging & Community
Students thrive when they know they belong.
Creating meaningful learning experiences begins with creating meaningful relationships. Across Riverside, we remain committed to building schools where every student feels seen, respected, valued, and connected. Through strong family partnerships, multilingual communication, counseling supports, mentoring opportunities, attendance initiatives, and collaborative school communities, we continue creating environments where every student knows they matter.
Our learning spaces continue evolving as well, providing welcoming environments that encourage collaboration, creativity, and engagement. Yet the true strength of Riverside has never been found in our buildings alone. It is found in the people who fill them each day.
When students feel valued, empowered, and connected, they become more willing to take risks, ask questions, embrace challenges, and discover who they are becoming.
Looking Ahead
As we begin this new school year, our renewed Mission and Vision remind us why this work matters.
Every lesson we teach, every relationship we build, every challenge we encourage students to embrace, and every opportunity we create has the potential to help a young person discover something about themselves and the future they want to create.
Our responsibility is not to decide that future for them.
Our responsibility is to prepare them with the confidence, purpose, skills, and experiences to discover and pursue it for themselves.
That is the promise of our renewed Mission and Vision.
That is the work of our Riverside Ram Family.
Together, we will continue inspiring authentic learning experiences, strengthening instructional excellence, cultivating a culture of belonging and community, and ensuring that every Riverside graduate leaves prepared not simply for the next step, but for a lifetime of learning, growth, purpose, and positive impact.
